i once knew a girl
a sunshine girl
i never once saw a storm in her head
when the clouds around her hung so low
she tried to blow them all away
until they finally dissipitate

this girl had a heart
she wanted to share
a love in her heart
that she wanted to give
to everyone everywhere

she loved to watch dark clouds
sail by her little window
she loved to listen to raindrops
and know there'd be a rainbow
after all the rain

today there's a girl i know
she loved to watch the dark dark clouds
but she didn't want the rain to stop
she loved the thunder
it chills and thrills her
and a rainbow does nothing for her
she hated the sunshine

this girl had a heart
and she gave pieces of them away
until there was none left in her heart
the love in her heart was gone

this girl she let the clouds hang low
above her tiny head
she looked up and she wished it to rain
she didn't once try to blow them away

oh these two girls are the same you say?
but no how can that be?
one so joyous she brings joy to the world
the other so sad she destroys herself
how can these two be the same girls?

yes they are, you said to me
and i begin to wonder
what happened to the sunshine girl?

both of them are me
